Tuning in to the Universal Frequency

In every moment, the Universe is whispering to you. You’re constantly surrounded by signs, coincidences, and synchronicities, all aimed at propelling you in the direction of your destiny. ~Denise Linn

Lately, I’ve been reviewing the year 2023, the year I prayed for liberation “whatever it takes” and experienced a year “surrounded by signs, coincidences, and synchronicities.” I was indeed propelled in the direction of my destiny, not in ways that I had imagined, but in ways I see now in retrospect were absolutely perfect.

Although the concept of being aligned with and listening to my inner wisdom is not new to me, as I look back at that year, I see how powerful the messages were and how challenged I was to trust and follow them when I was led in a direction that was intense and sometimes scary. And yet, without fail, when I found the courage to heed the guidance that came from within, I was led in astonishing alignment with a wisdom that resonated within me, but was not unique to me. I felt an attunement with a universal frequency that goes by many labels, such as God (by whatever name), Dao, nature, flow, consciousness, oneness, emptiness, and more.

We are not taught or encouraged in this culture to listen to, much less trust, the whispers in our soul. On the contrary, we are taught to dismiss them, even distrust them, and to conform only to what can be rationally explained and externally validated by authority, which historically has often meant by men. Intuition, in the past often attributed in a disparaging way to women, became suspect, dangerous, and in extreme cases even demonic.

However, I’ve found over the course of my life that the most reliable guidance came from within. Like many of us, regardless of gender, this was a lesson I learned the hard way, by ignoring to my detriment those whispers in my soul in favor of what “made sense” to my rational mind. It’s no accident that I became a lawyer and relied so heavily on mind and its thinking skills. While those skills were undeniably useful professionally and in other areas of life that require a logical approach, in the fundamental business of living a whole, integrated, joyful life, those skills often hampered more than helped. Indeed, the best choices I have made resulted not from logic or conventional wisdom, but often quite contrary to those standards. The choices I look back on as leading to my greatest blessings were those that were prompted by an inner knowing, a knowing that I might have described as a leap of faith, sometimes in opposition to the advice of others and often in defiance of the cautions voiced in my own mind.

Over the years, after experiencing the wisdom of that intuitive knowing, I came to trust it and follow it. That trust was put to the test, however, in 2023. When I prayed for liberation “whatever it takes” and avowed that I really meant it, it sometimes felt as if the universe responded with “Oh, do you really mean it? Let’s see.” The universe is not without a sense of humor. In reviewing that year now, however, from the distance of three years later, it’s so clear to me that I was not being toyed with. I was being blessed, blessed beyond comprehension, because I did mean it.

I was propelled in the direction of my destiny by a current that flows through all of creation, a current that vibrates at a universal frequency whispering in each of our souls in a unique way that is ours alone. When we listen, the universe reveals our path to us through signs, coincidences, and synchronicities, and most of all through an inner knowing that is effortless, beautiful, and unconditionally loving.

Your strength will come from standing in the center of a place no one can see, knowing what no one can verify, and dancing to a tune no one else can hear. ~Emanuel’s Book III

  1. Hello, my friend,

What a lovely post! I remember that year well. I still admire and respect your unabashed embrace of “all the things.”

Once again, we are aligned. Although we haven’t spoken in quite some time, I feel your presence. And I want to share with you that I’m finally pulling the trigger on my Substack. I listened to my intuition and to “the whispers of my soul.”

You remain such a blessing to me, and I love you!

    1. Good for you, Beth! I wish you the best in your new venture and I look forward to reading your posts on your new platform. Love you back!

    Hello again,

Listening to the whispers of one’s soul is especially difficult when you are young and trying to decide what you want or should be in life. Many times I followed my head, encouraged by so called careers guidance advice, rather than my heart, which I was just getting to know. But my heart had its say one way or another and I left jobs I hated at a critical time when I could have been getting my proverbial foot on a ladder. Then of course, I became stuck. It was years later before everything aligned, the frequencies were nicely tuned in when I became an artist, and later a writer. So I can relate to the first part of your post, Galen.

Then in 2024, a lot happened, some of which relates a tiny bit to your second part. While my mother was having to go into a care home and I was experiencing a lot of stress from my sister (she and I being so different) I was determined to process my feelings while my sister was not able to process hers to the point she was extremely triggering full of dramatic forecasts and predictions (none of which came to pass). Then the medic peeps found a few very small lumps in one of my breasts which led to some further scans travelling quite a distance to the clinic, then back for the results. I had to attend in person with hubby to be told the results, after waiting for two and a half weeks. At no point did I believe I had cancer, I don’t know how I knew this, I just did, but it was still stressful being pulled into that world. They decided the same but they wanted me to have one lump removed, which I was torn about. It was nothing, just a benign small ‘whatever’ they called it. I then didn’t like the dismissive attitude of the male surgeon on my follow up, so delayed to allow for the mother and sister situation to have a breathing space, then finally got it removed with a lady surgeon. All fine. I’m just sharing this because of this inner knowing, this intuition, which I was finally listening to as a more mature person, and which guides me now.

None of this is truly comparable to the lived experience you must have gone through, but there are echoes of it, at least. And I’m so happy you made it through. Hope you don’t mind me sharing. We seem to be tackling some deep topics lately. Big hug from me across the pond.

    1. You are so right about the wisdom of listening coming wtih maturity. The times I listened and followed my inner guidance when I was younger were times of extreme desperation when the guidance was shouting, not whispering!

I appreciate your sharing your own experience. Thanks, Lynne
