After years without any particular word for a new year, a word did come to me this year – liberate. So I wondered how to focus on this word, to make it a priority, to commit to it. A prayer came to me, and so I decided to have a prayer of the year, to expand a bit on the guidance of a word. Here is my prayer for 2023:
I commit myself this year to liberation. Whatever it takes. I will practice allowing with every breath. Answering the call into mystery. Releasing every thought of separation. Being the presence of Love. Living communion. I ask God, Kuan Yin, all my guardian angels and beings of light, all my spirit animals, all that are in harmony with the One, to guide me, remind me, carry me, inspire me, and open me to liberation. Amen.
I wrote this prayer on a little card. I read it out loud every morning before I meditate. I don’t know if this would be a meaningful practice for you to write your own prayer for the year, but I wanted to share the idea with you.

Hey Galen! I’ve never considered writing a poem to help make my WOTY a priority. Maybe I should try that although I haven’t written any poetry in YEARS!!! That might actually make my word stand out huh? I do write it in an affirmation every day when I journal and that certainly puts it front and center. But I like the creativity of a poem. Maybe in my next journal post I’ll attempt a poem. Thanks for the idea and may yours be the liberation it promises! ~Kathy
Sometimes a new idea just pops up, right? I wanted to make a commitment to liberation, and that prayer just came to me. It helps me set liberation as a priority that I focus on every morning. Then that Steve Miller Band song started playing in my head. I can’t quit humming it! Thanks for your comment, Kathy.
