We spend a lot of time and energy focused on loving others. We love our families and friends. We love our pets. We love our neighbors as ourselves. We even love our enemies, or at least try to. But many of us don’t think much of opening ourselves up to receive love. Why is that? Maybe we think we don’t deserve it, or that we won’t get it, or that it makes us vulnerable, or that it’s selfish, or so many other reasons.
All the while, love is dancing in front of you, singing to you, holding out its arms to embrace you, whispering in your soul, “You are so loved.” Life loves you into existence with every breath.
Sometimes life doesn’t feel so loving. We are injured or get sick. Someone hurts us, or leaves us, or dies. As someone pointed out to me recently, everything happens. Sometimes “everything” is not so pleasant. But if we are willing, if we look, if we give ourselves permission, we will see that love is still there, always there, always loving us in whatever circumstances we are in, loving us completely, unconditionally, just the way we are.
So as you go through your day today, perhaps you might pause now and then to just be loved. Soak it in like the warmth of the sun. Breathe it in like the fragrance of flowers. Bathe in it like a dip in the ocean.
Receive a stranger’s smile. Receive the beauty of a sunset. Receive a bird’s sweet song. Receive the touch of a friend, the embrace of a loved one, the care of a health provider, the encouragement of a teacher, the laughter of a child, the cuddling of a pet. Look for love coming your way and let yourself be loved.
May it be so.

Yes, Love. Some call it the Good News, Light, even God in drag. How incomprehensible this Love is. Yet, it’s as simple as a gentile touch or kind smile. It’s the chapter we live each day. It’s our prelude and final act — the song and dance of the soul.
